It's rare that I update my journal but I’ve been getting a lot of inquiries lately concerning commissions. So to make things easier, I am posting notes here to answer some of the general questions.
Price quotes on BLACK AND WHITE artwork
Commissions start from $50 for single character illustrations that are already inked with simple backgrounds.
Complex pieces that involves specific scenarios, backgrounds and multiple characters starts at $100
Price quotes on COLORED artwork:
Single character illustrations with simple backgrounds starts at $100, Complex pieces range from $150 and above. Two characters are around $150 to 200.
Multiple hero characters begin at $300 and will never exceed 350. It’s usually three to five characters. (There’s only so much one can put on an 11x17 artwork before each character gets too small.)
I send layouts for approval before doing tight pencils or inking and I send copies of the work in progress before proceeding to other steps like coloring.
These quotes are not for artwork intended for commercial use.
Payments:
50% down payment and the remaining balance paid before I send the high resolution files.
I accept Paypal via Xoom.com (Like everyone else in the region, it’s the only way right now to process Paypal payments)
Western Union
Moneygram
Direct Bank Transfers
Shipping:
Most do not ask for the inked or penciled originals, but in cases that they want the artwork. Shipping cost is shouldered by the buyer.
Turnaround time:
Usually one to two weeks depending on the detail of the artwork and depending on communication with the buyer.
If the illustration will take longer than that for whatever reason I let the buyer know.
I don’t do these commissions by the bulk. I do everything to give the best that I can give on each one so I can say I am proud of the work and it’s worth printing and be hanged on the wall.
Hope this helps anyone who's interested.

GREAT HOW-TO ART BOOK
From time to time Ive been asked What reference books do you use? or whos the artist you use for reference?
Answering the latter question is easy. For STYLE, the artist I referenced earlier when I was starting out making a living out of drawing is Jim Lee much like anyone else at the time. The other guy is Masamune Shirow.
I found out about Jim Lee through another comic book artist who showed me a graphic novel copy of Uncanny X-men while I was submitting samples of my artwork to local publishers here. I love the energy of his work and I like his art style because it looked easy enough to emulate and make
BEST ANSWER
You dial a number given and call overseas, long distance to update your client.
You carefully enter the area code, the country code, the city code and the local number
The phone rings and then stops, you wish that it's not the answering machine, someone answered.
Beforehand you checked the timezone and you know it's afternoon to where you're calling so you say "Good afternoon, My name is Joseph and I am calling long distance from the Philippines. May I speak with _________ ?..."
The girl at the end of the line says "There's no one here by that name"
You paused for a while, could you have been wrong dialing the number? You double-check an
COMMISSION STATUS
I should've done this along time ago so that those with pending commissions aren't left wondering about the artwork.

GOOD START
January is usually a dry season when looking for work. Well, At least for me.
This year is different -probably because of the economy in some parts of the globe being problematic.
It's still the first week of the month and I already have something to work on until August and that's a great thing for a freelance artist like me. When you're a freelance, you usually look for work only a month before your current work ends. Because if you accept work and commit too soon, shit happens.
Luckily, the schedules of each gig didn't collide with the others. This is the first time something like this happened. Answered Prayers I guess.
I have the ful
